Cookie policy

Draft, still to be reviewed by our legal adviser

Draft

§1What cookies and local storage are

Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store and send back on later visits. Local storage (localStorage) is a similar browser feature: the website saves data in your own browser, but — unlike a cookie — that data is not automatically sent anywhere. Both live on your device and are under your control.

§2What this site actually uses

The plain truth for sonarshop.co.za: we set no analytics cookies, no marketing or advertising cookies, and no third-party trackers of any kind. There is no Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel, no advertising network on this site. The complete list of browser storage and third-party requests is:

  • localStorage key sonarshop-quote — holds the items you have added to your quote slip so the list survives between pages and visits. It exists only in your own browser and is never transmitted to us or anyone else until you choose to submit a quote request, at which point the item list is included in your submission.
  • Google Fonts — the site's typefaces are loaded from Google's font servers (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). Like any web request, your browser's IP address is visible to Google when the fonts are fetched. Google states it does not use these requests for advertising, but we mention it because it is the site's only third-party request.

That is the whole list.

§3Why there is no cookie banner

Consent banners exist to ask permission for non-essential cookies — analytics, advertising, tracking. This site sets none, so there is nothing to ask consent for, and we do not show a banner. The quote-slip storage is strictly functional: it exists only so the feature you are deliberately using works.

§4How to clear the stored data

  • Emptying your quote slip on the quote slip page removes the stored items.
  • You can also clear it through your browser: in most browsers, go to Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data (or Site settings for sonarshop.co.za) and clear “cookies and site data”. This deletes the sonarshop-quote entry.
  • Browsing in private/incognito mode discards the stored data when you close the window.

Clearing the data has one effect only: your quote slip starts empty. Everything else on the site works exactly the same.

§5Changes and contact

If we ever add a cookie or third-party service, we will update this policy first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before it is set. Questions: admin@sonarshop.co.za. See also our privacy policy. This document is Rev 0.1, a draft pending review by the company's legal adviser.
